The year 1939 is lauded as one of the greatest years in American film, but it is equally notable for memorable songs. In addition to the many favorites from "The Wizard of Oz," popular songs that year included "In the Mood," "All the Things You Are," "Good Morning," "And the Angels Sing," "Lydia the Tattooed Lady," "Beer Barrel Polka" and many more.
Join Valerie Anastasio and Tim Harbold in celebrating the classic songs of 1939. Featured songwriters include Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Yip Harburg, Hoagy Carmichael, Harry Warren, Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein, whose songs were introduced by some of the era’s best-loved artists, including Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Ethel Merman, the Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman. For twenty five years, Valerie Anastasio & Tim Harbold have delighted audiences at venues throughout New England, blending jazz standards, show tunes, and comic cabaret with their own distinctive musicianship and humor. The duo have appeared regularly in the American Classics series at the Longy School of Music, and their solo work and collaborations with Benjamin Sears and Bradford Conner have led to four CDs; accolades in Billboard, Show Music, and newspapers around New England; and two IRNE nominations for best cabaret ensemble.
